Caterpillar Inc. has launched eight new models in its next-generation Cat® Skid Steer Loader (SSL) and Compact Track Loader (CTL) series. The new Cat SSL lineup includes the 250, 260, 270 and 270 XE models, while the CTL series expands with the Cat 275, 275 XE, 285 and 285 XE, joining the previously announced 255 and 265 models.
These latest additions mark a significant upgrade from the popular Cat D3 series, featuring a complete redesign that enhances engine power, lift and tilt breakout forces and overall stability. The new machines are the largest CTLs ever produced by Caterpillar, with the 285 and 285 XE offering impressive lift heights and breakout forces.
The next-generation models adopt Caterpillar’s updated nomenclature, dropping the series letter designations in favor of a simpler naming system. SSL models now end in 0, while CTLs end in 5, with the middle number indicating machine size.
“We are excited to launch the next generation design for our skid steer loader line and expand the performance capabilities to more compact track loader models,” Trevor Chase, senior product consultant and new product introduction lead for Caterpillar, said. “Their increased power, lift height, breakout forces, rated operating capacity and multiple high-flow auxiliary hydraulic system options give customers a flexible, high-performance machine to get the job done.”
All new models feature a redesigned engine compartment for improved stability and a wider range of engine power. The CTLs are equipped with the new E-bar undercarriage, enhancing stability and adaptability on varied terrain. Additionally, the updated cab design offers increased space and comfort, with advanced monitoring and control systems that integrate seamlessly with Cat Smart Attachments.
These next-generation loaders are expected to set a new performance benchmark in the industry, combining high power and advanced technology for enhanced productivity on the jobsite.
