Caterpillar has introduced the Cat 395 Long Reach Excavator (LRE), designed for long-distance applications such as dredging, ditch cleaning and canal maintenance.
With a maximum digging depth of nearly 72 feet (22 meters) and up to almost 92 feet (28 meters) of reach at ground level, the 395 LRE falls into the super long reach category.
It features a 38-foot (11.8-meter) stick, a 50-foot (15.5-meter) boom and a Constant Velocity linkage adapted for its extended reach. The bucket has a capacity of up to 70 cubic feet (2 cubic meters), depending on material density.
The LRE kit, available for retrofit on any 395 model, integrates with the standard machine and enhances its capabilities.
The kit includes waterproofed sensor boxes to support Cat’s next-generation technologies such as Payload Management, 2D Grade Control and 2D E-fence, which helps operators maintain work area boundaries and improve site safety.
The machine’s stability is enhanced with a 4-foot (1.33-meter) car body extension and a counterweight increased by nearly 40% to 23.7 U.S. tons (21.5 metric tons).
Despite this, the counterweight remains within the original dimensions, preserving the machine’s tail ratio.
Operators can equip the 395 LRE with high- or medium-pressure auxiliary lines and a quick coupler for hydromechanical work tools such as grapples. Additional handrails and standard rear and side view cameras, with an optional 360-degree camera, improve safety.
The Cat 395 LRE maintains the fuel efficiency, low ownership costs and durability of the standard 395 model. It meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tier 4 Final, European Union’s Stage V, Japan 2014, Korea Stage V and China Nonroad Stage IV emission standards.
