CASE Construction Equipment has unveiled the 580EV, the industry's first electric backhoe loader, marking a significant step in zero-emissions construction technology. This new addition is part of CASE's expanded lineup of electric vehicles, which now includes the CX25EV mini excavator and the CL36EV compact wheel loader, joining the already available CX15EV mini excavator and SL22EV small articulated loader.
The CASE 580EV electric backhoe loader offers similar dimensions and performance to its diesel counterpart, the 580SN, but with the added benefits of zero emissions and reduced noise. It features an 8-inch touchscreen display, advanced thermal management for its 71-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and up to eight hours of operational run time on a single charge. The backhoe loader also boasts improved performance with instant torque response and precise control through its electric motors.
“Designing this machine from day one as a purpose-built EV instead of a retrofit has enabled a slew of practical innovations that will positively change the mindset for teams considering EV equipment,” said Brad Stemper, product management lead, North America, CASE. “We looked at every aspect of the machine and enhanced power consumption throughout to deliver exceptional EV performance that operators will see and feel when digging, loading or moving dirt.”
The new CX25EV mini excavator, weighing 2.5 metric tons, and the CL36EV compact wheel loader, at 3.6 metric tons, provide additional options for contractors seeking eco-friendly equipment. Both machines offer enhanced performance and versatility for tight and urban work sites, with simplified maintenance and lower total cost of ownership.
